In comparison to film cameras, digital cameras have number of advantages which includes displaying the image on the camera screen right after recording, a single small memory device can record thousands of images, records video with sound, provision to edit images, and above all storage capacity can be re-used by deleting the images. There are numbers of devices available that has in-built digital cameras like mobile phones, PDAs etc. Specialized digital cameras are fit into astronomical devices like The Hubble Space Telescope.

Digitizing images on scanner and digitizing video signals are much older than making of still images using digital signals from an array of discrete sensor elements. It was then used for astronauts to provide onboard navigation information during their visit to planets. It provided the still photos of stars and planet locations during transit and also additional stadiametric information for orbiting or landing guidance while approaching planet.

Steven Sasson, an engineer at Eastman Kodak, attempted to develop first digital camera with solid state CCD image sensor chips. But it was just a technical exercise. The true digital camera was Fuji DS-1P developed in 1988. And the first commercialized camera was Dycam Model 1 in 1990. Then in 1991, Kodak launched its Kodak DCS 100. Else Casio QV-10 was the first consumer camera in 1995. Nikon D1, a 2.74 megapixel camera was the first digital SLR developed in 1999. And in 2003, Canon 300D, first 600 megapixel camera was launched.

There are various types of digital cameras available. For videos, there are professional video cameras which are used in television and movie production. Camcorders come with inbuilt microphone and a small liquid crystal display to watch video while recording and playback. One can get still photographs also with them. Webcams, attached to computers, can capture full-motion video and are also available with microphones or zooming ability.

In live-preview digital camera, there is an electronic camera that can be used to frame and preview before taking the photograph and also to review stored photographs. Many of such cameras can take motion pictures. Then the recorded images can be transferred to computer, printer or any other such device. USB mass storage device enables the camera to function as disk drive for computer and Picture Transfer Protocol is then used.

To use Firewire, storage device is removed from camera and inserted into other device. Compact digital cameras, small and portable with inbuilt flash, are easy to use, and images are stored using Lossy compression. They might be able to capture motion picture but that to a limit. Bridge or SLR like camera is higher-end-live-preview camera with more advanced features like superzoom lenses, takes movies with sound, etc. Digital rangefinder, a user operated mechanism, is capable to measure subject distance.

Apart from above mentioned digital cameras, there are other categories also. Professional modular digital camera systems are used in studios for commercial production. Line-scan camera systems, based on focusing mechanism, are used in industrial settings to capture images of constantly moving materials. They capture images at extremely fast with high image resolutions.

Most of the digital cameras come with pre-set modes for different applications. Data can be transferred through USB port, Firewire port, USB PTP mode and even through wireless connections like WiFi, Bluetooth etc. These data are mostly stored in Microdrives, Joint Photography Experts Group (JPEG), Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) and RAW. Formats for movies are AVI, DV, MPEG and MOV. Recently MP4 format is also developed. Digital cameras have small but powerful batteries to operate for enough length of time.

The Age of Digital Photography
By Russell Hancock

Taking pictures is an enjoyable past-time. It is a means of capturing a moment in time and preserving it forever. It is a form of creative expression and for those fortunate enough to be really good at it, a way to make money.

There was a time not too long ago when it took a week or more before you could see the images you produced. Then the Polaroid instant cameras were introduced which gave a person the means to see their photographs in a matter of a few minutes, instead of a few days. They were revolutionary and popular but produced a rather small image

In 1972 the instant camera revolution really took off with the introduction of the Polaroid SX-70. The SX-70 was a folding SLR pack film camera which was produced in various iterations up until the early 1980s.

The SX-70 was revolutionary because it accomplished several things. First, it was the only motorized foldable camera on the market at that time. It was also convenient because it used a self contained, self developing film which did not need to be peeled apart.
By 1973 Polaroid was producing 5000 SX-70 cameras a day and almost 50,000 packs of film.

Throughout the 70's Polaroid continued to enjoy unprecedented success with their line of instant cameras.
In 1979 Polaroid produced 7.3 million cameras. They
seemed to be everywhere.

The digital age really came into being in the late 80's and early 90's. These first commercially available cameras were helped by the formation of the JPEG and MPEG standards in 1988 which allowed image files to be compressed for storage.

The first consumer camera with a digital display was produced by Casio in 1995. These first mass produced consumer digital cameras were originally a low resolution format, less than 1 mega pixel.
Around 1997 the first mega pixel cameras appeared with some offering the ability to record video clips as well.

In today's market, you will find that many digital cameras have become more compact. Yet in spite of their smaller size, they still yield superior quality images with most offering five to ten mega pixels of resolution or better. Some are also available with a wireless download feature so you don't even have to connect the camera to a PC.

The digital cameras of today have truly revolutionized the way we take pictures, much as the instant cameras did in the early 70's.
No matter what type of photographer you are, professional or amateur, go out and find the digital camera that is right for you.

Purchasing A Digital Camera - A Tough Choice
By Kenneth Scott

Purchasing a digital camera is most definitely not an easy task. In the days before digital technology the task was not really any easier but there were less criteria to think about it really only came down to as how easy the camera was to use, how versatile it was and probably and most importantly was it of good quality and produced good results.

Technology changes and progresses so quickly that buying a digital camera can be an absolute minefield. After all, do you really want to spend hard earned cash on a great new camera only to find that one has just come onto the market with for example a much better memory or resolution at a fraction of the price you paid. It really is wise if possible to consult someone who has experience in this area and can point out all the details which require consideration before you consider going ahead with a purchase.

Doing some research of your own is always a good idea before making any expensive purchase. Consumer reports will give you all the facts that you should need to help in making a choice and can be a really good starting point. There are of course many other sources such as photographic journals and electronic journals. Here you should get plenty of information as well as product reviews and technical information for all the big name brands which can be very useful although perhaps a bit mind boggling
.
Also a reputable photography store should also be able to give invaluable advise and fully demonstrate the functions of different makes and models and may be able to provide answers to any additional questions you may have - this does depend greatly on the knowledge and commitment of the staff.

Often the internet can be a huge source of information and the range of products available is equally as huge also, purchasing products online can save quite a bit of money. In this instance however it is worth being a bit more careful. If you have problems with your digital camera you may not experience the same level of service you would receive from a reputable store.

My advise would tend to be play safe and visit a reputable store to make your purchase where you can see the cameras first hand and make a good informed choice with the help of a professional and hopefully get a good deal too!

The Best Rated Digital Cameras 2008
By Chris Campbell

How to separate the best from the worst, and more specifically everything in between can be a daunting task for the average consumer. When your looking at items that we purchase on a daily basis, it's pretty easy. Buying groceries, gasoline, lunch, or magazines every week teaches us pretty quickly what is the best and what's the worst of any given product. But, whenever were faced with the task of buying something once every few years or so the rules change.

Now were forced to rely on the advice of so called experts. The first product that comes to mind like this for most people, is cars. It's a big ticket item, we only get one every few years so we're not always sure what to look for when making a purchase. Hence, entering the picture, we get consumer reports, product reviews, and salesman.

Another product that falls into this type of category, is digital cameras. Digital cameras, are something we all have, and something that we only shop for once in a blue moon. Compound this with the radical change in technology and features that digital cameras exhibit, it's no wonder the average consumer feels like a babe in the woods when shopping for a camera.

The good news, is there really isn't much too worry about. There has been so much money and interest thrown at the digital camera industry in the last few years the it really has evolved into almost a commodity market. What I mean by that, is that for the most part the quality and reliability of most digital cameras is pretty common across a give price range regardless of manufacturer. Still sound confusing? How about this explanation . . . no matter what camera you buy, your chances are pretty darn good of getting a great product.

The technology is pretty stable (at least for essential features), and the competition has been and continues to be fierce amongst manufacturers. That's great for consumers. Manufactures have had to continuously roll out more and better features while slashing prices at the same time. You should have now problem getting a great camera for your money.

Couple that, with the fact that comparison shopping is sooooo easy on the internet. There are numerous tools out there to compare prices and features, it really is a shoppers marketplace. Any camera you can possibly imagine is available for sale online. Prices are good, shipping is getting cheaper, and customer service is improving every day. All you need to know is make a decision, and start taking some great pictures.

Top 4 Ways to Make Money with Your Digital Camera
By Rayven Perkins

As a stay at home mom looking for supplemental income, the most important thing we can do is to look for a way to earn money with one of our hobbies or interests.

Making money at home does not have to be direct sales or network marketing. There are infinite possibilities available to make money at home.

One hobby my sister has always loved is photography. Since we were little, she used to pour thorough photo books, and take various pictures of strange objects with her camera. Once digital cameras came on the marketplace, she has had one on her at all times.

But she never really went to any class on learning how to take professional photos. So imagine her happy surprise when she realized how easy it was to earn additional income through her digital photography hobby, despite the fact that she had no formal training!

There are many ways you can earn money with your digital camera at home. Here are a few of my favorites.

1.Selling Stock Photos
There is a huge online market for royalty free stock photos. Simply put, photographers, both professional and new amateurs just coming on the market, take a wide variety of photos on everything. These photos can be of people, places, things, events, you name it.

The photos are then uploaded to one of dozens of profitable stock photo sites where individuals and companies all over the world can purchase the rights to use them for a relatively low price. They then use these photos royalty free on their website, in promotional materials for their companies, and for other uses.

The photographer gets paid for each person who buys their photo. The more photos they take, the more money they make!

2.Photography Field Services
A little known way of making money with your digital camera is by taking pictures for insurance companies and financial institutions.

Whenever a home loan is refinanced, the financial institution will pay a photographer to go out to the property and take a few snapshots of the home for appraisal purposes. The photographer does not interact with the home owners, and is generally paid a very decent fee.

This type of work can also be done for foreclosures, repossessions, insurance claims, and other types of insurance and financial institution needs. The photographer generally needs little to no experience in order to get these types of positions.

The best part about doing these first two types of digital photography work is that you can usually take your children with you! The perfect work at home solution for a mother who has small children at home.

3.Freelance Photography
Once your photography skills improve, you can even branch out into your own freelance photography business. There are many different options for this type of work.

You can take pictures professionally for occasions such as weddings, birthday parties, graduation, and new babies. Or you can even start to take photos to submit to magazines and news publications.

There is a huge, growing market in this field.

4.Mystery Shop Audits
For those who are familiar with secret shopping or mystery shopping, adding in your skills as a digital photographer can come in handy. Many mystery shop companies have auditing assignments available which require a few photos to be taken.

The pay for these shops is generally low, about what a typical mystery shop would pay, but the amount of paperwork to be filled out is usually less, making audits an attractive addition to your mystery shopping skills.

My sister, the family photographer, is currently taking stock photos to list up on one of the major sites. She is excited to be putting her favorite hobby to use, and plans on eventually making this her full-time income.

The Best Top Rated Digital Cameras On The Planet
By Chris Campbell

So, rumor has it, your looking for the top rated digital cameras ever to grace a store shelf. Well, what if I told you that the even if you get the best rated digital camera on the planet, it still won't save you from taking pictures that suck out loud. Yep you heard me. That may be a bit harsh, but better I tell you the truth now, then wait for you to spend a thousand or more dollars on the latest and greatest camera that Canon, Nikon, or Pentax have to offer.

A great camera doesn't necessarily guarantee great pictures. I've seen some pretty amazing pictures taken with cheap little point and shoot cameras. Its true, sad but true. Money may not be able to buy you love and happiness, but it's also true that it can't buy you the camera to make you the next Annie Lebowitz. It just can't. The only thing that can get you to take better pictures, is to learn to be a better photographer.

Photography is a skill, like any other, and you can't just throw money at the problem, and hope it's fixed. It's going to take some time and effort on your part to make that happen as well. However, once you begin to understand more about composition, lighting, color, shading, field of depth and other components of what makes a good photograph, then and only then will a better camera do wonders for your images.

It's like playing tennis as a beginner. No matter what racquet you put in your hands, your always going to play like an amateur. But, once you spend a few years at the sport, and move up in your skill level, then a good racquet can mean the difference between winning and losing your club championship.

Good cameras are exactly like that. The complex professional cameras have features and functionality that you really need to understand to take advantage of. If you don't know what and aperture is, or have a basic understanding of field of depth and color matching, then just stick with the point and shoot cameras. They do much of the thinking for you.

If however, your serious, and have a passion, and have spent time AND money upgrading your skills and knowledge, then it's time to invest in some good photography equipment. Before you make that purchase, be sure you understand the camera technology available. Also make sure you know what you want in the context of that technology. There's no point in paying for something you won't ever user. When you've done all that, it's time to get to the nuts and bolts of shopping around. The internet is great for that, as just about every camera ever manufactured is described, reviewed, praised and panned on the internet. Just take a look around.

A Guide to Professional Styles and Techniques in the Art of Digital Wedding Photography
By James Reilly

A Guide to Professional Styles and Techniques in the Art of Digital Wedding Photography

When people get sentimental, they usually flip albums and look at the pictures that depict the things that happened in their lives. These pictures are not simply pieces of colored papers with images for they can trigger deeply-seated emotions. Emotions vary depending on the memories attached to these images seen and preserved.

One of the moments that most people would really love to preserve is the tick of events on their wedding day.

For this reason, people even decide to hire professional photographers to capture the important moments of their lives. However, these photographers may not always advise the client to strike a pose. They are expected to wait patiently to be able to catch memorable portraits. Most photographers that are employed for weddings have assistants so that they can maximize their strategy in creating an album that will not regrettable.

What if you would also want to take pictures of a friends wedding?
Here are a few basic techniques and styles for anyone who wants to capture the said event using a digital camera:

1. If you want to take a picture of a couple or any intended target, make sure that the background is good and the environment is not so crowded.

2. If there is a nice background but it is hard to focus on the couple, you may shoot them from shoulder up.

3. If some of the guests are wearing glasses, they can be advised to stand tilt their heads a little down or sideways to avoid the glaring effect that normally appears when the flash is used.

4. If there is a couple or a group that you wish to include in the picture, you should zoom in or out of the picture.

5. You must not shoot a couple or any guest against the light so that dark images will not appear

6. Candid shots are also dramatic. These portraits reveal more than the quality of the picture itself. In fact, many professionals do this to capture intimate and memorable moments.

7. You should be alert at all times since you can seldom ask individuals to pose again for you.

8. Your digital camera should be equipped with appropriate memory cards or sticks to ensure that no great moment is missed.

In other words, you have to have an extra memory card especially when you want more moments to preserve. The following suggestions should be considered before buying a memory card:

1. for 3 mega pixels a 256 MB memory card
2. for 4 mega pixels a 512 MB memory card
3. for 6 mega pixels 1 gigabyte memory card

9. You are not advised to use low resolutions if the images will be displayed and hung later.

Just always remember that the higher the resolution utilized, the larger the size of prints that can be made.

10. Keep a copy of your best works so you can use and reuse the techniques that made your viewers smile and appreciate your creation more.

You can do this by saving albums on your personal computer to free up the space in your memory card. You may also use other software to enhance the quality of the prints to be made.

Photography is truly a wonderful art. Wedding is a wonderful event. The union of these things will trigger emotions and memories in the long run more so if images are captured and preserved well. They all depend on your camera and your love for this art and the couple.

Buying a Digital Camera? Read This Buying Guide!
By Bob Shanty

Many digital cameras with upgraded technology are being introduced every day. This makes it more difficult to select a camera, as you are left with a wide range of models to choose from. However, most buyers have specific features and needs in mind. Rather than going for the latest model, buy digital cameras that best suit your requirements.

What should I look for when buying a digital camera?

The cheap camera lenses, resolution, display size, performance and battery life should all play a significant role in your buying decision. Here are some features to keep in mind while picking the right camera for yourself.

Resolution:

Resolution is typically defined as the number of pixels that make up a picture. A digital cameras resolution is closely related to image quality. You need a high resolution camera to shoot and print highly detailed photographs. If you want to enlarge and crop any of your photos without loss of clarity, go for cameras that offer a higher resolution. If you do not intend on printing your photographs and would rather email them to friends, a lower resolution camera would be a better choice. They are more affordable and still produce fairly good images.

Memory and Connectivity:

Generally, digital cameras have a removable storage option, such as a memory card slot. Digital cameras support a wide range of formats like flash memory, memory sticks, SecureDigital cards, SmartMedia cards and xD Picture cards. Many TVs, laptops, digital photo frames and some gaming consoles have memory card readers, so you can easily view photos that are stored on memory cards. If you want to save money, store photos on the cameras internal memory rather than on a memory card and transfer them to a PC or Mac using a USB cable. Digital memory is a huge time and money saver!

Batteries:

Rechargeable batteries are highly recommended because they can be charged and reused again. Recent cameras are compatible with NiCad, NiMH and lithium-ion batteries. Though NiCad and NiMH are inexpensive, lithium-ion is worth the extra money. They are long-lasting batteries with low self-discharge rates. You should opt for cameras that are compatible with lithium-ion batteries. A few cameras come with an AC power adapter that can be used to charge the digital camera battery as well.

Zoom:

Digital cameras come with two types of zoom lenses, optical and digital. Both of these zoom lenses allow you to take close-ups of a distant subject, although they accomplish this task through different means. The optical zoom magnifies the image before the shot is taken, whereas the digital zoom artificially magnifies the image by enlarging the pixel area but this leads to a loss of resolution. You should pay more attention to the optical zoom rather than the digital zoom when comparing models.

Modes:

Most cameras available today have preset modes for shooting images under different conditions. Factors such as exposure, aperture, focussing, light metering, white balance and sensitivity can all be adjusted. Many digital cameras also include video capture modes, enabling you to take short videos at different frame rate speeds.

ViewFinders and LCD Displays:

The optical viewfinder is the window you look through when taking a picutre. Although there are digital cameras with viewfinders, several of the latest models have only an LCD display. The LCD screen lets you view an image as you take it and also plays back pictures and videos saved on your camera. Anti-glare screens are best for buyers who plan on shooting a lot of photos outdoors. If you need a durable camera for rough use, opt for a scratch resistant screen.

Technology:

Digital cameras also come with innovative technologies that make photography fun and easy. Do u want to avoid overexposed or darkened faces, recognise multiple faces or optimize the color and tonal qualities of your photos? Not a problem. Todays cameras are well equipped with automatic red-eye and camera shake detection and correction as well as multiple face recognition. Not no meantion tons of

What are the different types of cameras and camera accessories online or available through conventional stores?

Point-and-Shoot Models:

Point-and-shoot cameras are a dime a dozen. These entry level models provide low resolution with little magnification. If you do not want to spend time on focusing and figuring out the settings and controls, a point-and-shoot camera is just the ticket. You will find plenty of these models that are low in cost and easy to use.

Intermediate Models:

These models are especially designed for beginners. Equipped with a range of automatic settings, these consumer-level digital cameras produce flawless pictures. They usually have a resolution of 3.2 to 5 megapixels and a 3:1 to 4:1 zoom lens.

Advanced Consumer Models:

If you have taken a class or photography is one of your hobbies, then you will probably want some additional features. Choose from the many advanced consumer models with higher resolutions, quality lenses and morer zoom. These models let you add features based on your needs and give you the freedom to personalize the settings.

Prosumer Models:

When you buy digital cameras, if consumer models are too basic for you and professional models are too complex, you will love a prosumer model. These sophisticated cameras have the best of both worlds. They have a vast number of options to work with, like switching between automatic and manual focus, selecting the shutter speed and adjusting the aperture settings. You will also have the opportunity to express your creative side by manipulating images. You can adjust the brightness and contrast levels for truly unique snaps. You can expect a minimum of 5 to 6 megapixels in this category. These digital cameras can take 2 to 3 pictures per second, but tend to be more fragile than other models.

Professional Models:

You will need a top of the line model that sports the latest features to meet your high demands, if you are a professional photographer. Professional models are capable of producing high resolution images with magnificent colors and clarity. They have interchangeable lenses and a resolution of up to 14 megapixels. These models are the fastest on the market, allowing you to take 5 pictures per second. Professional digital cameras have a whopping storage option of at least a 1 GB mini hard disk drive, on an average.

Digital Photography - The Digital Age Is Here, Don't Get Left Out!
By Jay Evans

Taking Photographs has been one of the best ways to help us re capture those treasured moments from the past for a long time now, and if anything today this is even more true. The advances in technology over the last decade have made picture taking so, so much easier and convenient pretty much anywhere and in any situation. Thanks to the digital age and the digital camera, people are taking pictures more and more often, whether it's of their children, loved ones, there pets, vacations or just of plain funny situations they find them selves in.

The other reason why picture taking is becoming more and more common among our fellow citizens of the world is the pricing of today's digital cameras. Once upon a time only rich people could afford to buy a digital camera, but today with the constant evolution of technology the price of a reasonably good digital camera is at the reach of pretty much all of us.

Just take a trip to your local electronics store; you'll see that there are plenty to choose from at reasonable prices. Generally once you know which camera you want to buy, you would do good to do some searches online, since normally you'll be able to get a better price, you might want to read up on some digital camera reviews too while your at it.

A digital camera gives you so much more control that once you've got used to it, you simply won't know how you ever managed with a traditional film camera. To start with, the digital display on the camera allows you to see how the picture looks, if the picture didn't work out, you can just delete it and try again. This means that you no longer have to move on with out knowing whether or not you got that perfect picture.

But the real advantage of using a digital camera is the actual digital format the pictures are saved in it self. Since the photos are digital you can transfer them to a whole range of digital devices and what's even more important, you can transfer them to a computer where you can edit the photos in ways totally an imaginable with the old non digital photos.

Maybe you don't want all of the outer area of your photo, you can simple remove it and make the image bigger so that it's the same size. Or maybe your flash has left your best friend looking like a vampire! You can remove the red eye in minutes and no one will ever know. And that's just scraping the surface of what you can do, Digital photo editing has become an art in it self!

The digital age combined with the internet, is changing the way humans interact. Digital photography and digital video is more and more common everyday. Even pretty much all mobile phones have their own digital camera these days, if you haven't got a digital camera yet, you are really missing out. Whether you like it or not, change is the most common factor in our world, you can either get with it, or get left behind.

Digital Camera - Indispensable For Life
By Roberto Sedycias

Its really quite difficult to memorize the events that happen in our everyday life. Certain events of our life are forgotten which we dont want to forget, but still we cant help ourselves to remember them. But we can save them in the form of pictures so that we can memorize those precious moments when going through the pages of past events. It is possible when we have a digital camera to seize the moment.

In the early 2000, a digital camera with 1 mega pixel sensor costs nearly about $500 American dollars. But now, a digital camera with 5 mega pixel sensor costs less than $ 100 American dollars.   Digital cameras

Latest technology brings brand new products and features; well this statement is basically true when it comes to digital cameras and more importantly in the case of digital camera lenses. There are many types of lenses; each with varying specifications that makes it harder for us to chose the right one for us. As you can imagine, having the right lens can make a huge difference when it comes to photography. Good thing is, most of the latest high tech digital cameras come with extra accessories with changeable lens. You can always upgrade to a higher or a better lens to improve the quality of your photos.

Choosing a suitable focal length is probably the most important factor when it comes to lens. Focal lengths determine the field of view of the pictures you can take with your camera. Two main types of focal lengths are the telephoto which is mainly used for landscapes and the wide-angle which is used for close up shots or portraits.

It is always preferred to go for the fast lenses because they are best suited towards successful photography in darker lighting conditions. Zoom lenses are great option for taking pictures from a great distance. They give you the diversity of a range of focal lengths all rolled up into a single adjustable lens; this is great for taking pictures indoors as well as outdoors without the necessity of switching between various lens. On the other hand, add on lenses are especially targeted towards the basic compact digital cameras. These lenses are excellent and cost effective as well.

A digital SLR camera is based on its optical system, speed and clarity when comparing with any point and shoot digital camera. A SLR camera enables the user to check out the picture exactly as it is without being altered by any digital features. A digital SLR camera is versatile as it has interchangeable lenses which allow the users to take advantage of the custom built lens for any particular shot. Some of the lenses are also built to capture motion shots.

It delivers the highest quality of images possible. If you prefer to go for simple photography then you can choose a point and shoot digital camera. These cameras also can take great quality pictures. For your normal holiday photos a compact point and shoot digital camera is ideal. However, there are couple of disadvantages when using a point and shoot digital camera. The flash in a point and shoot digital camera is often located just above the sensors which has a greater chance in causing a red eye. They can be slow, failing to capture the perfect photo. In some cases, taking multiple pictures quickly is simply not possible with a point and shoot camera.

There are several other factors you need to take into consideration when purchasing a digital camera lens. You can rest happily if your lens utilizes aspheric lens elements, thus it will produce sharper and greater quality images. Lenses that use internal and auto focus keep the weight of the lens down thus allowing faster focusing.

As far as digital photography is concerned, SLR cameras are the best; they are fully automatic and will provide you with transitional steps that can aid you to make a swift transition from being an average user to a professional one.

Utility of Digital Camera Reviews
By L Keshav

You will find Digital camera reviews everywhere, from webistes to newspapers, magazines and even TV shows. We often wonder why most digital camera reviews always praise all the digital camera out in the market, that is why we end up getting confused on which product to buy or get our loved ones.

Bear in mind one thing - never believe in press releases issued by the producer of the digital camera. Such press releases will always be stuffed with the good points. They are aimed to get people to buy the product or to give the product a better name.

Home shopping networks are no different. They also pretty much pose the same claims about their products. Do not want to listen up? No problem Go ahead, get them and return them after proving to yourself that it does not work.

The best reviews about digital camera are found in tech magazines and special websites catering to techie stuff and unofficial digital camera reviews. These reviewers and critics are never afraid to list down the good as much as the bad points of digital cameras. They are specially qualified for the stuff involved. They know what they are talking about when it comes to digital camera reviews. Almost always, these digital camera reviews are a result of actual first hand experience with the product itself.

Top Rated Digital Cameras 2008
By Chris Campbell

Everyone wants the best of everything. The best house, the best cars, the best spouse, the best kids, the best digital camera. Hang on, maybe that last one doesn't really belong in this category, but hey, I'm just trying to make a point. What the point is, I'm not sure, but we'll get there. The best of everything, including digital cameras is something we've all be conditioned to look for. We all want to get value for our money. No matter what it is.

The thing with cameras though, is that the technology changes so quickly, that by the time I finish writing this review, the next great batch of great cameras will hit the store shelves. Only too soon to be quickly followed by manufactures announcing the latest and greatest new features for the next round of cameras. If your into photography, and technology, this can be great fun. What with learning all the new jargon, buying all the latest gadgets, and generally just impressing the heck out of friends and family with all your geek wisdom.

But, too the average joe-camera-shopper, who just needs a new digital for his next vacation, or next big wedding, or his teenage daughters birthday, then all this NEW stuff can be a bit overwhelming. The good news for joe, is that he can just ignore it all.

The truth be told, the basis of a good camera really hasn't changed much in the past 50 years or so. You want a good quality lens, in a solid camera housing, that is capable of getting you a true to life quality image reproduction. The camera manufacturers have been greedily salivating over digital technology ever since it hit the photography field. They've never had so many reasons to release so many new models with so many new bells and whistles. Mind you, some of them are great, but some features are just plain useless. Or if not useless, then probably so buried amongst all the other menu features that most users never know they're there let alone use them.

The really good news though, is that with the power of the internet at our disposal we can get the very latest up to date information at a moments notice. There are tools online, that will compare digital cameras feature by feature, and show you the top rated cameras on a daily basis. Not only will they compare prices, but you can query these tools by feature as well. You can ask for example for the top rated Canon SLR cameras with 10 megapixels, a wide angle lens, in the 600-900 dollar range. These kind of tools can significantly shorten your search time, and alert you to some really good bargains in one fell swoop.
